IPTV

As I’m one of those “couch potatoes” that likes watching tv and movies I’ve recently begun a quest to find IPTV services that could expand the already large lineup of channels I can watch. Unfortunately, this is still new technology that some companies are testing but that is not available yet as a service to the consumers. Then only one working that I found was Akimbo (www.akimbo.com), but its offerings are mainly old movies and most of them unknown, plus a lot of independent programs.
Other than that, there are services popping up here in europe that seem more insteresting: two spanish services one from Telefonica (www.telefonica.es) called Ingenio and the other one called Superbanda (www.superbanda.net) that offer popular channels available traditionally only on Satellite. But you must be in Spain to sign up as the service is mostly tied to the very broadband service. Then we have another in Italy that has just launched from ex monopolist Telecom Italia called Alice Home Tv. This one offers a few tv shows and mostly movies on a pay-per-view basis but not mainstream channels. And once again the service is tied to the broadband service so you must be in Italy and subscribe to their DSL to get it.
From my point of view all these services are pointless unless everyone in the world can get it and thus enjoy foreign tv like never before. Let’s hope for the future.

Blogs

As you may already know I’m new to blogs and not just at writing one. I’ve come accross blogs many times in the past but only recently I’m reading them regularly. So I found out a very good search engine just for blogs: Technorati. And it is interesting also because you get to know things you didnt: for example there is a list of top searches and there I found out about “Du bist Deushland” a campaign by the German government aiming at improving the self esteem of German nationals.

Earthquake

A few minutes ago my chair started shaking and moments later everything else for a few seconds. Earthquake. It’s not the first time I experience it, the first one I can remember was when I was 5 or less at elementary school and happened when I was at the school itself. I now learned this one was originating at sea very close to Greece so it must have been pretty strong for me to feel it here…
